Platform Migrations to WordPress

Move off lock-in. Keep your content and URLs.

AlphaWeb migrates websites and web apps onto WordPress so you own the platform, cut recurring vendor costs and keep your page structure intact. We have moved content from Schoolwires, Drupal, ExpressionEngine and ASP.NET into WordPress, including district-scale Multisite networks.

Who migrations are for

Districts stuck on proprietary school platforms. Nonprofits running three or four CMSs at once. Agencies that need an open source stack they can secure and extend. If your current platform is expensive, slow to change or hard to staff, a planned WordPress migration is often the fix.

School districts

Schoolwires and other proprietary K-12 platforms into WordPress Multisite, with school-level editors and central control.

Multi-CMS consolidations

Drupal, ExpressionEngine, ASP.NET and WordPress properties into one Multisite network, the pattern used for DrugFree.org under Brian's leadership.

Government and agencies

Accessible, secure WordPress rebuilds with Section 508 and WCAG requirements in the plan, not bolted on later.

Migrations by platform

Every source platform has its own quirks. Start with the guide for the one you are leaving.

Schoolwires to WordPress

Move every district and school site off Schoolwires and onto one WordPress Multisite network, with menus, page hierarchy and original URLs rebuilt by custom script. The approach behind about 80 Newark Public Schools websites.

Drupal to WordPress

Move off Drupal with every content type, field, vocabulary and URL mapped, migrated by repeatable scripts and covered by 301 redirects. The approach behind the DrugFree.org consolidation into one WordPress Multisite network.

ExpressionEngine, ASP.NET and more

We have also moved ExpressionEngine and ASP.NET properties into WordPress, including consolidations into a single Multisite network. Tell us what you run today.

What you get

  • Migration audit: inventory of sites, content types, URLs, integrations, redirects and risk.
  • Custom migration scripts: automated moves that preserve menus, hierarchy and original URLs when the source allows it.
  • WordPress Multisite or single-site builds: themes, plugins, roles and editorial workflows matched to how your team works.
  • Redirect and SEO plan: keep search equity and bookmarks intact.
  • Training and handoff: your editors learn the new stack before launch.
  • Optional managed hosting and support: dedicated resources, monitoring and ongoing updates after go-live.

Our migration process

  1. Audit: we evaluate your web properties and map content, URLs, users and integrations.
  2. Plan: architecture, Multisite vs single site, timeline, redirects, accessibility and launch criteria.
  3. Build: themes, plugins, roles and the migration scripts that pull content across.
  4. Launch: cutover, DNS, redirects, smoke tests and editor training.
  5. Support: updates, security, optimization and monitoring so the new platform stays mission ready.

Related case study: Newark Public Schools

Newark Public Schools had about 80 websites on the proprietary Schoolwires platform. A custom migration created a site per school on a WordPress Multisite network, scraped each Schoolwires menu to rebuild page titles, hierarchy and original URLs, then pulled each page's content across. The district now runs one open source network its staff manage centrally, with managed hosting that includes dedicated CPUs and failover.

Platform migration FAQs

Can you migrate my existing website to WordPress?

Yes. Migrations are a specialty. We have moved content from Drupal, ExpressionEngine, ASP.NET and Schoolwires into WordPress, using scripts that preserve your page structure and URLs.

Will we lose our URLs and search rankings?

We plan redirects and carry original URLs forward whenever the source platform allows it. That is how the Newark Schoolwires migration kept menu hierarchy and URLs intact.

Do you only migrate Schoolwires?

No. Schoolwires is a known specialty for school districts, and we have also migrated Drupal, ExpressionEngine and ASP.NET properties into WordPress.

Can you host and support the new network after launch?

Yes. We provide managed WordPress hosting options (including dedicated CPUs, failover and monitoring for clients like Newark Public Schools) and ongoing support plans. We also work with managed hosts such as WP Engine.
