A redesign and hand migration of the Skype TX broadcast site to WordPress, and the first Microsoft property moved to managed WP Engine hosting.

Skype TX is the broadcast hardware and software that lets studios bring Skype callers from anywhere in the world live on air. It has been used for news, television and film, and conferences. Its marketing site, Skype in Media, needed a rebuild that lived up to the product, and Brian led it.

The challenge

The site ran on an aging system that was hard for editors to manage and hard for visitors to navigate. Skype wanted a cleaner experience that still honored its internationally recognized brand.

The approach

Collaborative design

A joint design phase with the Skype team clarified its goals and produced a simpler, refreshed look that stays inside Skype's brand rules. Navigation was reorganized so broadcasters find what they need quickly.

Hand migration

Every page and post was moved from the old system into WordPress by hand, so nothing was lost or mangled along the way. Planning tips are in protecting SEO during a WordPress migration.

An enterprise hosting environment

Brian's team recommended managed WordPress hosting on WP Engine, made the introductions and handled the technical cutover so the transition was seamless.

The outcome

Skype in Media became the first Microsoft property hosted on WP Engine, which opened the door for more Microsoft WordPress sites on that platform. The editorial team now manages its own content with far less friction. See the wider story in Microsoft on WordPress.
