WooCommerce 10.9 Logs Every Transactional Email Send in Core

Email send attempts now appear under WooCommerce Status Logs, draft orders are created later in checkout and galleries, swatches and wishlists enter beta.

WooCommerce 10.9.0 was released on June 23, 2026. It defers draft order creation in checkout, polishes the admin, adds transactional email logging to core and introduces canonical abilities for products and orders, along with a long list of beta features.

The release lists 464 pull requests from 65 contributors and includes a database update. Minimum requirements stay at WordPress 6.9 and PHP 7.4. WooCommerce 10.9.1 followed on June 24, 2026.

Draft orders move closer to the Place Order button

The Store API no longer creates a persisted draft order during fresh session GET and PATCH requests. Draft order creation now happens closer to when the shopper places the order, which reduces leftover drafts from abandoned checkouts. Other changes reduce repeated checkout saves and lookups, improve product filter queries and lower query volume on shop and admin product pages.

Extensions that expect early drafts. Some payment and checkout extensions assume a draft order exists as soon as checkout loads. We test every gateway and checkout add on a client uses on staging, including express payment buttons, and confirm orders are created once and only once.

Transactional email logging in WooCommerce core

WooCommerce now logs transactional email send attempts in core. They can be reviewed under WooCommerce, Status, Logs, including whether a send succeeded and, where available, local failure details.

Answering "I never got the email." This gives us a first stop when a customer says they did not receive an order email. We show client teams where the log lives and, where a store already runs a separate email logging plugin, decide with them whether to keep it for delivery tracking or retire it.

Admin polish and the removed task list bar

The WooCommerce admin header is refined, dashboard views behave better on smaller screens and modals share one visual style. The task list reminder bar is removed from most WooCommerce admin pages, with setup guidance still available from the dashboard and activity panel.

Canonical abilities for products and orders in 10.9

WooCommerce 10.9 rebuilds its domain abilities for product and order operations, such as querying and updating products, querying orders, updating order status and adding order notes. These replace the original MCP abilities that wrapped REST endpoints one to one, and the deprecated WooCommerce specific MCP endpoint remains available as a transition path.

AI integrations built on the MCP beta. Any automation built on the earlier MCP abilities should be moved to the new ones while the transition endpoint still exists. We list which abilities a client's tools call, test the replacements on staging and switch over before the old endpoint is retired.

Beta features to try in 10.9: galleries, swatches and saved items

  • Variation image galleries, off by default behind a toggle under WooCommerce, Settings, Advanced, Features
  • Visual attributes and color swatches, feature gated, with swatches in Product Filters and the Variation Selector
  • Save for Later and Wishlist for logged in shoppers
  • An experimental dual API and GraphQL infrastructure for PHP 8.1 or newer
  • The block based Product Editor beta and its extension APIs are deprecated ahead of planned removal in 11.0

Replacing gallery and swatch plugins. Variation galleries and swatches overlap with popular extensions. For clients who use those extensions, we try the core versions on staging with real products, compare how they look and perform and only recommend switching once the core feature leaves beta and covers what the store needs.

Update day notes for 10.9: fatal error notices and 10.9.1

Some sites saw a temporary fatal error notice, and in some cases a recovery email, while updating to 10.9.0. WooCommerce explained that a cached copy of the previous code could briefly try to load a class that had moved, and that the notice clears after the update finishes; sites with aggressive OPcache settings may need a cache flush or PHP restart. The WordPress.org Plugin Directory had also introduced a 24 hour cooldown for plugin releases, so updates might not appear in dashboards immediately. WooCommerce 10.9.1, released on June 24, 2026, restored compatibility with older versions of the WooCommerce Stripe Payment Gateway by removing a newly required product feed method.

Stripe stores and update timing. Stores running an older Stripe gateway were the ones most likely to notice a problem with 10.9.0. We move those stores straight to 10.9.1 or later, update the Stripe extension at the same time and flush OPcache after the update so no stale code lingers.

WooCommerce 10.9 FAQ

Where do I find the new email logs?

Under WooCommerce, Status, Logs.

Are variation galleries switched on in 10.9?

No. They ship off by default behind a toggle in the Features settings.

Why did my site show a fatal error during the 10.9 update?

WooCommerce said the notice can appear while plugin files are being replaced and clears after the update finishes and the page reloads. If it persists, clearing the server cache or flushing OPcache helps.
