EU-Parkings App: Secure Truck Parking Across Europe

EU-Parkings, home of the EU standard for Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas, built its map based app on the AppPresser platform.

Where can a truck stop safely tonight?

Much of Europe's trade travels by road, and a lot of cargo theft happens while trucks sit parked. The quality of rest areas also matters to drivers, at a time when the industry is short of them. EU-Parkings promotes one EU wide standard for Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas (SSTPAs), and its app shows drivers exactly where the certified sites are. The EU-Parkings team built the app with AppPresser's app builder.

The standard in brief

  • Legal basis: Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/1012, in force since April 2022
  • Security levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum
  • Driver services: a mandatory set, with specific attention to female drivers
  • Checks: both security and services are audited by registered certification bodies

The EU-Parkings website began as a project of the Commission's expert group on SSTPAs and is backed by the European Commission. The team built the app on AppPresser.

From the cab: how drivers use it

A driver opens the app to a map of Europe. Certified sites are pinned and clustered by region, the view can switch to satellite, and a single tap reruns the search for whatever area is on screen.

Each site shows up as a card with its operator logo, address, phone number and certification level. Opening the card reveals a location map, precise coordinates to drop into navigation, and a share button for sending the site to a dispatcher or another driver.

The detail page also lists the mandatory services under the standard, for example separate toilets and warm showers for men and women, food and drinks at any hour, a place to eat, free internet and power sockets, along with whatever extras that site offers.

Everyone working from the same criteria

Drivers get a trusted place to rest anywhere in Europe. Transport companies and shippers can plan routes that match the value of a load. Operators, auditors and insurers all refer to the same published levels.

One directory, two outputs

Parking sites are managed in WordPress with Divi modules, E2Pdf and PDF Embedder. When a new area earns certification and is added to the site, it appears in the app as well.

Not only for businesses

A Europe wide public interest program used the same WordPress plus AppPresser approach that a shop or publisher would. A directory became a map that fits in the cab.
