WordPress 7.0.1 was released on July 9, 2026. It is a short cycle maintenance release with fixes for 31 bugs across WordPress core and the block editor.

What changed

According to the official announcement, the fixes address issues in several areas, including:

  • The block editor
  • The admin user interface
  • Media

There are no new features. The release is focused on bug fixes. The announcement noted that the next major version would be WordPress 7.1.

How to update

Sites that support automatic background updates receive it on their own. You can also update from Dashboard, then Updates, then Update Now.

Retesting admin screens and media after WordPress 7.0.1

Admin interface and media fixes are welcome after a release that changed so much of the dashboard. If your editors reported odd behavior in the new admin screens or in the media library after 7.0, retest after this update before chasing a plugin conflict.

For custom plugins that add admin screens or media handling, 7.0.1 is a good moment to run a quick regression check on staging.

Block editor fixes. Editor bugs slow down every post your team publishes. We apply 7.0.1 on staging, edit a long post that uses your most common blocks and patterns, and confirm custom blocks still save and render the same way before we update production.

Admin interface fixes. WordPress 7.0 redesigned the dashboard, so fixes to the admin interface are welcome for teams still settling into it. After updating, we check the screens your team relies on, plus any custom settings pages we built, and confirm they display correctly with the new styles.

Media fixes. Uploads and images touch almost every page on a site. On staging, we upload, crop and insert images and confirm your existing image sizes still generate correctly, so the media library is dependable for your editors once the update is live.
