WooCommerce 10.8 Requires WordPress 6.9 and Adds Review Request Emails

Released May 26, 2026, WooCommerce 10.8 needs WordPress 6.9, matches WordPress 7.0 admin styles and offers an opt in post purchase review email.

WooCommerce 10.8 was released on May 26, 2026, a week after its original date, so it would not overlap with WordPress 7.0 and a late change could get extra validation. It raises the minimum WordPress version to 6.9, aligns the admin with WordPress 7.0 styling and adds an optional Customer Review Request email.

The release lists 176 pull requests from 67 contributors and includes database updates. PHP 7.4 remains the minimum PHP version. WooCommerce 10.8.1 followed on May 27, 2026 and is covered below.

WordPress 6.9 becomes the minimum, with WordPress 7.0 admin styling

WooCommerce 10.8 requires WordPress 6.9 or newer. Around fifteen pull requests align the WooCommerce admin with WordPress 7.0 styling, covering form controls, Select2 dropdowns, button radii, notice colors and meta boxes, and hardcoded admin blues now follow the selected admin color scheme. The admin also shows a banner when the browser loses its connection and a clear notice when a save fails because of network loss.

Core and WooCommerce upgrades together. A raised WordPress minimum means WooCommerce 10.8 will not install on stores still running WordPress 6.8. We update WordPress first on staging, check the theme and extensions against it, then apply WooCommerce 10.8 and work through checkout, order management and the admin screens before repeating the sequence in production.

Storefront query work continues in 10.8

  • New indexes on the wc_orders table for transaction ID lookups and on wc_reserved_stock for stock reservation during peak sales
  • Cache priming across product listing pages, the product edit screen, the classic cart, grouped products and the Store API product schema
  • Coupon _used_by data is lazy loaded, so heavily used coupons no longer load their full usage history into memory
  • Layered navigation filter caches are capped by default to protect wp_options from unbounded growth

Sale day readiness. Index changes on reserved stock are aimed at peak sales, which is when we least want surprises. Ahead of a client's promotion, we run the database update on staging, time a checkout under load and confirm popular coupons still apply quickly.

An optional Customer Review Request email

A new transactional email invites customers to review the products they bought. It is disabled by default and feature gated, configured under WooCommerce, Settings, Emails, and scheduled through Action Scheduler a set number of days after an order completes. It is cancelled automatically if the order is cancelled, refunded or trashed, and customers land on a tokenized, read only review page.

Review requests and existing tools. Many stores already send review requests through a marketing platform or a reviews extension. Before switching this email on, we check what the client already sends so customers do not get two requests, and we preview the email and review page against the store's branding.

Email blocks, shipping providers and account navigation in 10.8

  • The coupon code email block can generate a unique code for each recipient at send time
  • Block emails carry version metadata, and a reset action restores an email to the original template
  • Custom shipping providers can be defined with tracking URL templates, and orders can be filtered by provider
  • The Customer Account block supports optional dropdown navigation

API changes developers should test in 10.8

  • PUT /wc/v2/orders/{id} and /wc/v3/orders/{id} reject requests for records that are not orders instead of converting them
  • Checkout draft orders are excluded from default REST order queries and must be requested with status=checkout-draft
  • Downloads, COGS and purchase notes are stripped from v4 product responses for users who cannot manage products
  • Unauthenticated access to guest order fulfillments through the REST API was fixed
  • A new product.published webhook topic was added, along with the dual code and GraphQL API and a GraphQL settings section under Advanced

Integrations that read orders. Excluding checkout drafts from default queries changes what some reporting and sync tools receive. We run each client's order integration against staging and confirm its counts still match the admin, then adjust any query that needs checkout drafts explicitly.

WooPayments onboarding and upgrade fixes in 10.8.1

WooCommerce 10.8.1, released on May 27, 2026, restores the WooPayments onboarding flow after a dropdown regression stopped new merchants at the legal entity type step, and fixes a fatal PHP error logged during in place upgrades from 10.7 to 10.8. WooCommerce noted the upgrade itself still completed and WP-CLI upgrades were not affected.

Error logs after updating. An error during an update can look alarming even when the update succeeds. After moving stores to 10.8.1, we review the PHP error log and WooCommerce logs to separate harmless update notices from real problems.

WooCommerce 10.8 FAQ

Can I run WooCommerce 10.8 on WordPress 6.8?

No. WooCommerce 10.8 requires WordPress 6.9 or newer.

Is the Customer Review Request email on by default?

No. It is disabled by default and must be enabled under WooCommerce, Settings, Emails.

Why was WooCommerce 10.8 delayed?

WooCommerce moved it from May 19 to May 26, 2026 to avoid overlapping with WordPress 7.0 and to give a late change more validation time.
