Sport from an island point of view
8SPORTS treats the Canary Islands as the center of its sports coverage rather than a footnote to Madrid. Its Spanish language app, built by the publisher NOW Mass Media with AppPresser's app builder, gives fans across the archipelago that coverage on their phones.

A young outlet with a clear rulebook
The outlet launched on May 30, 2025, which is Canary Islands Day. NOW Mass Media already ran a UD Las Palmas fan site and a regional motorsport title, so it knew its readers well. The editorial line is simple: no sport counts as minor. Football and basketball share space with sailing, handball, futsal, surfing, padel, Canarian wrestling and Vela Latina, and the team writes about the athletes as well as the scores.
Four things a fan can do in the app
- Follow results and reporting. Match reports, analysis and breaking news cover island clubs and athletes in local, national and international competitions.
- Drill into one sport. A menu lists football, basketball, motorsport, volleyball, traditional sports and handball, and each opens narrower sections.
- Read the human side. Historias 8SPORTS collects profiles, interviews and opinion about the people behind Canarian sport.
- Pass a story on. Buttons for social networks, messaging apps and email sit under every article.
A yellow header carries the brand, and the bottom bar keeps Inicio, Noticias and Historias one tap away.

Readers near and far
Islanders who want every result, fans of sports the national press rarely covers, and Canarians living elsewhere who still follow home clubs all get the same feed. Athletes and federations benefit too, because smaller competitions reach a wider audience.

Why launching an app in year one made sense
Most new outlets wait years before going mobile. Because the 8SPORTS newsroom already published in WordPress, AppPresser could turn that site into an app without a second publishing system, and the team kept its attention on reporting.
