Families at the Boys & Girls Club of Whittier can now check events, register for programs and get club updates from their phones. The AppPresser team built the app on WordPress.

The challenge: busy parents, lots of programs

The club offers year round programming that helps young people build academic skills and live healthy lives. For parents, keeping track of sessions, deadlines, closures and events across many locations is a real task. Staff needed a faster way to reach families, and families needed one place to find everything.

A home screen organized around daily questions

The home screen surfaces the categories parents check most, including Programs, Calendar and Announcements. Clear structure means a parent can find what they need in a few taps.

Features designed around how families use the club

  • Interactive events calendar: upcoming programs, school breaks and registration deadlines in a scrollable view, with dates, times, locations and a copy address tool
  • Announcements and push notifications: staff can alert families about last minute closures or upcoming events
  • Programs by age group: sessions listed by grade level with times, locations and benefits
  • Digital registration and forms: families complete sign ups on their phones with no printing
  • Locations map with filters: find club sites across Whittier, Pico Rivera and nearby areas, filtered by city or program type
  • News and community spotlights: updates and recognition for members, staff and milestones
  • Volunteer and career opportunities: mentorship programs, staff roles and special events
  • Contact tab: the main clubhouse address, phone, email and a built in contact form

Signature events, such as the club's 50th Gala and Auction, can be featured prominently and updated in real time.

How it works behind the scenes

All content, including events, program descriptions, forms and news, lives in the club's WordPress dashboard. The app connects through the WordPress REST API, so a change made in WordPress appears in the app automatically. With the AppPresser Visual Builder, staff can also adjust screens, menus and interface components while keeping control of branding.

For the team, that means:

  • Publish news or a notification once and reach every family
  • Run communications from one familiar system instead of several tools
  • Make updates without writing code or waiting on outside developers

The takeaway

For a youth organization, the best technology is the kind families actually open. Putting registration, schedules and alerts in a single app, managed from the website the staff already use, gives the club a practical tool that can grow with its programs.
