About the client
Funkmaster Flex is one of the most influential DJs to come out of New York City, with a long run on HOT 97 that began in the early 1990s. He also leads Lit Digital DJs, a collective of DJs and tastemakers who create curated music experiences, throw events and set the soundtrack for cultural moments in hip hop and R&B.
The challenge: match the brand without overbuilding
The collective wanted an app that carried its energy and kept fans connected, without piling on features nobody uses. The brief came down to two jobs: let people listen live, and let them get to know the DJs.
What we built
Live radio the moment the app opens
The app launches straight into a built in radio player with live streams from HOT 97 and 107.5 WBLS, two well known New York stations playing hip hop, R&B and soul. The player works on iOS and Android and includes AirPlay, so listeners can send the stream to speakers, TVs or cars.
A roster that is easy to browse
The second tab is a clean, scrollable list of the full Lit Digital DJs roster. Event planners and fans can quickly see who is part of the crew.
Room to grow
The current release is intentionally lightweight, and because it runs on WordPress with the AppPresser Visual App Builder, new features can be added in future versions as the business expands.
What listeners are saying
App Store reviewers have called the release a solid update from a previous app, highlighted being able to stream both stations at any time, and shared ideas for playlist features.
The takeaway
Not every app needs dozens of screens. For an entertainment brand, a fast player and a clear way to meet the talent can deliver more than a crowded feature list, especially when the platform makes it easy to add more later.
