Not Brazilian Portuguese
Many apps that teach Portuguese focus on the Brazilian variety. Anyone moving to or visiting Portugal soon notices the difference, in vowel sounds and in everyday expressions. Practice Portuguese teaches only the Portuguese spoken in Portugal, and its app puts the full platform on a learner's phone. The company built the app with AppPresser's app builder.

Started as a podcast
Joel Rendall, a Canadian, moved to Lisbon in 2012 and could not find learning material that was not Brazilian. He and Rui Coimbra, who was born in Lisbon, began a podcast with transcripts and sold access through a basic WordPress membership. That project grew into a full course with units from beginner to upper intermediate, a big library of dialogues, grammar and culture notes, and a forum for members. The company is supported by its members and carries no ads. It built the app on AppPresser.

The learning tools
Structured units, A1 to B2. Each unit blends listening, speaking and grammar. Learners can follow them in sequence or jump to a real world task, such as ordering a meal, renting a flat or opening a bank account.
Dialogues recorded in Portugal. Short episodes, videos and podcasts come with synced transcripts, translations, playback speed controls, vocabulary lists and quizzes. Audio and PDFs download for offline study.
Smart Review. Useful phrases turn into flash cards that return on a spaced repetition schedule, with flash card, quiz and audio only modes.
Verbs and translation. Conjugation drills cover hundreds of common verbs, and a translator tuned for European Portuguese adds audio and sample sentences.

Free or premium
Without paying, learners can read notes, use dialogues and offline audio, and preview premium units. A premium membership opens everything.

Learners it fits
- Expats handling daily life in Portugal
- Travelers who want more than a phrase book
- People reconnecting with family heritage
- Committed students aiming for higher levels
Short lessons and offline audio make a few minutes of practice each day realistic.

A WordPress membership that grew up
The site has been on WordPress since the first podcast episode. It now uses WooCommerce and WooCommerce Subscriptions for memberships, GamiPress for points and daily rewards, Beaver Builder for layout and AffiliateWP for affiliates. AppPresser links that platform to apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, so lessons, accounts and subscriptions are all managed in one place.
Habits happen on the phone
Language learning is a daily routine, and phones are where routines live. A small team turned its membership site into a polished mobile product without building a separate backend.
