BlackFriday.de App: Germany's Black Friday Deals

BlackFriday.de, Germany's long running Black Friday portal, built its deals app on the AppPresser platform so new offers flow from WordPress to phones.

Deals that appear and vanish within hours

German retailers tend to announce Black Friday offers at the last minute, and popular ones sell out fast. BlackFriday.de gathers them in one place, and since 2021 its app has let shoppers follow the rush live rather than refreshing dozens of shop websites. Gall Marketing built the app with AppPresser's app builder.

The portal

Simon Gall, a marketing specialist, started BlackFriday.de in 2012 after seeing American deal sites. His company, Gall Marketing GmbH in Oberhausen, still runs it, and coverage now includes Austria and Switzerland along with a widely read newsletter. The portal calls itself Germany's longest running Black Friday site, and it is also known for its legal fight over the name: a German trademark on "Black Friday" was challenged and eventually cancelled.

Tour of the app

The interface is entirely German, with three tabs along the bottom.

  • Countdown: days, hours, minutes and seconds until Black Friday, with a newsletter signup underneath.
  • Deals: a scrolling list of the newest offers, each with a brand image, the shop's name and a one line summary.
  • Shops: well known retailers in a grid, each with a button for its current offers.

A side menu adds new deals, all deals and categories ranging from cars and phone contracts to beauty, books, computers, fashion and football. Tapping an offer shows the details and any voucher code, and a button goes straight to the shop. Shoppers who opt in get a push alert when new deals land.

Who gets value from it

Casual shoppers can check the countdown and a handful of offers each day. Serious bargain hunters rely on alerts to move before stock runs out. Retailers get their promotions in front of people who are already in a buying mood.

Publishing a flood of deals once

The site uses a custom WordPress theme and the Newsletter plugin. Gall Marketing built the app itself on AppPresser, so each deal is entered on the website and appears in the app automatically, which is what makes a seasonal spike manageable.

The lesson for seasonal brands

An app can be built around a single annual event and still earn daily opens, thanks to a countdown and timely alerts. It also works perfectly well in German.
