The mission
Palmer Square sits in the heart of downtown Princeton, and its app works as a pocket guide to the shops, restaurants and events there. We designed and built it as a fully custom app driven by WordPress, so staff update the business directory and events calendar without a developer. Push notifications and a loyalty system keep visitors coming back.

A guided tour of palmersquare.com: shopping, dining, the map directory and events. Switch between the desktop and mobile versions. The same WordPress content powers the Palmer Square app.
This case study walks through the live Palmer Square site section by section: the homepage, the shop directory with category filters, the interactive map directory, dining, the events calendar, family fun, and Princeton 250. Along the way we explain how that same WordPress content drives the custom iOS and Android app we designed and built for the Square.
Key features
- Filterable business directory with map, hours and contact details
- Dining directory with links to menus and reservations
- Events calendar managed in WordPress
- Opt-in push notifications for sales and promotions
- Per-business loyalty perks via QR code or check-in
Homepage: downtown Princeton in one scroll

Visitors land on a clear pitch for Palmer Square: a unique experience in downtown Princeton. The hero points them to Shop, Dine and Stay. Below that, brand logos, a Princeton 250 band and a Discover section pull people deeper into the directory and events. Staff edit all of it in WordPress, and the same content feeds the app.
Shop the Square: every boutique in one directory

The Shop page is the front door to every boutique on the Square. Visitors scan a photo grid of stores, open a listing for hours and contact details, and jump from the web directory into the same listings they see in the app.
Filter by category

Category filters let someone looking for Jewelry or Coffee and Sweets cut the directory down to a short list. The same filterable directory pattern is what shoppers use in the Palmer Square app when they are already on the Green.
Map Directory: find any store on the Square

The Map Directory puts an interactive map next to a searchable list of stores. Visitors can scan the list, click a store, and see where it sits on the Square. That map plus hours and contact details is the same data the app uses when someone wants directions without opening a separate maps app.
Dining on the Square

The Dine page is a photo directory of restaurants, cafes and sweets. Cards link out to menus and reservations where the merchant provides them. Staff keep the list current in WordPress, so the website and the app stay in sync when a kitchen changes hours or a new spot opens.
Events: what is happening this month

Events run through a WordPress calendar. The month view fills with concerts, markets, family programs and seasonal festivals. Visitors can switch between list and calendar views, open an event for details, and find the same schedule inside the app.

Things to Do: family fun all year

Family Fun is a Things to Do page built for parents: Events on the Green, storytime and holiday traditions, laid out as alternating photo and text rows. It is the kind of evergreen content that stays useful in the app long after a single festival ends.
Princeton 250: Revolutionary Roots

For Princeton's 250th anniversary, Palmer Square published a dedicated Revolutionary Roots page with a hero and an events grid. Seasonal campaign pages like this sit beside the ongoing directory and calendar, all managed from the same WordPress install that powers the app.
Experience the Square

Experience pages group shopping, dining and events into guided ways to explore the Square. They give the site (and the app) room to tell a story that a plain directory listing cannot.
The app: WordPress in your pocket
We designed and built the Palmer Square app as a custom iOS and Android experience on top of that WordPress directory and calendar. Staff publish a store, update hours or schedule an event once, and it shows up on the website and in the app. Opt-in push notifications cover sales and promotions. Per-business loyalty perks work through a QR code or check-in, so merchants on the Square can reward regulars without a separate loyalty vendor.
The results
Palmer Square now has one WordPress-driven directory and events calendar that feeds both the public website and a custom mobile app. Visitors browse shops, dining and events on any device. Merchants get push and loyalty tools. The team updates content without waiting on an app store release for every change.
