How the Cohere API Works
Your system calls the Cohere API with an API key. Depending on the job, it sends a prompt to a Command model, sends text to an Embed model to make it searchable, or sends search results to a Rerank model to sort them by relevance.
Command Models
Command models handle chat, writing, summaries and agent tasks with tool use.
Embed and Rerank
Embed turns your pages and documents into searchable vectors, and Rerank orders results by how well they answer the question. Together they power search that understands meaning.
Private Deployment
Cohere can be deployed in a private cloud or on premises, and its North platform runs enterprise agents in those environments. Cohere models are also on Amazon Bedrock.
